Get Comfortable -
Originally created for the Inspired by Knepp exhibition, this piece transforms a traditional armchair into a dense, living surface of stitch and appliqué. Ragwort—often dismissed as a weed—is reimagined here as a vital habitat, alive with cinnabar moth caterpillars, wild growth, and layered colour.
The chair is worked directly into the upholstery, combining free-motion embroidery with raw-edge appliqué. Flowers spill across the arms and back, while the seat carries hand-stitched text—grounding the piece in both narrative and place.
This work sits between furniture and sculpture: functional in form, but primarily an artwork about attention—what we choose to value, and what we overlook.
Now held in a private collection.
